Extra-lightweight iron-on polyester fabric! DIACOV 1000 – We deliver the ordered length in one piece. Maximum continuous length: 50 meters (164 Feet) . To order a continuous length please add in the quantity box – example – I want 10 continuous metres in one piece, add 10 in the quantity box Colour: The pictures show the material with its backing on, which looks yellow, but once this is removed the finish is Translucent White ready for painting if required. The video below shows this. Finish: Translucent White Width: 73.5cm (28.93 inches) Thickness: 164 µ Weight with adhesive: 100 g/m² Weight without adhesive: 86 g/m² DIACOV 1000 is ideal for covering scale model aircraft, from small to large sizes, and it’s very easy to apply. It is a translucent white polyester fabric with high tear resistance and temperature stability. It is approved by professional model makers and can be easily ironed onto any surface. It substantially reinforces all structures to which it is applied without stretching too much. Edges or other three-dimensional contours can be covered without problems. DIACOV 1000 is heated with an iron and can then be pulled into shape. It is possible to paint it directly with PUR-based inks that have good elasticity and UV resistance. Brittle hardening varnishes, on the other hand, tend to flake off. DIACOV has the same heat shrink capacity in wrap and weft direction. The shrinkage behaviour can be very sensitively controlled by the temperature of the iron or hot-air gun. Aeronautical fabric provides gains in weight, cost and speed. You can paint directly on it. Heat sealing from 100°C on all types of substrate (wood, fabric, paint, foam, aluminium, etc.), easy to apply, waterproof, and with good U.V resistance after painting. Very powerful bonding, no separation in the sun. European leader in technical solutions for interlinings, and fabrics for ultralight and light aircraft. What the experts say! – Discovering Diacov 1000 a couple of years ago and along with fellow builders, we thought we would give it ago. We have been so impressed we decided to sell it here at Sarik. Paint wise they say use Polyurethane (PU or PUR as they seem to call them now) paints. We have personally used the KlassKote epoxy system from Phil Clark at Fighter Aces too with great success. If you’re using glow fuel, it’s the ‘only’ paint that is ‘totally’ resistant to it anyway. It’s lovely to spray with too! If not that, you’ll be fine with most paint sold in the model trade, to be honest. Maybe make up a test frame and try out a paint if you have doubts! The Diatex website advises against hard brittle varnishes, which they say will tend to flake off.  Re-thinned dope to keep taught …. we’d say not necessary.  Our experience is that it really doesn’t wrinkle in the heat. One of us had a 1/4 scale Cub covered and partially painted in his ‘very hot’ workshop this summer and was very happy that not a wrinkle appeared. Whilst large-scale modellers e.g. the LMA chaps have used Diatex (the non-iron version) from the same company for years Diacov is only just starting to become known here. When using and covering treat as you would Solartex or Oratex.  They say iron from 100 degrees, but 120 seems better to us.
